Delivering a dream smile

Dr Jo Tan, cosmetic dentist and owner of Dental Remedy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, has established a reputation for himself in this bustling city for his natural-looking smile transformations, luxury patient experience and technologically advanced clinic.

Thanks to his growing popularity through word-of-mouth and strategic marketing, discerning patients come to him from far and wide to improve the function and appearance of their smiles. In this particular case, his patient was dissatisfied with her smile due to its lack of fullness, absence of a full smile arch and the small size of her teeth. “She desired a fuller smile that would cover all her lower teeth and wanted a prominent smile arch,” Jo explains.

By implementing the Digital Smile Design (DSD) workflow from the outset, Jo and his team were able to address her concerns effectively. “We crafted a new smile design tailored to her preferences and refined her dream smile during the smile test drive phase,” he continues. He attributes the visual communication methodology of DSD to the confidence the patient had in her treatment, having seen the end result before starting which alleviated all her uncertainties.

“The patient had high expectations after the smile test drive and our goal was to exceed them in the final restorations,” he continues. This was achieved through the hallmark DSD approach known as ‘copy-paste’ dentistry with fully milled eMax veneers. “The surface texture of the veneers was remarkable and similar to that of natural teeth. When I received them, they looked like individual pieces of art to me—an impressive testament to the DSD process,” he adds.

Exceeding expectations with DSD Natural Restorations

When it came to bonding, the process ran smoothly from start to finish. “The margins adapted perfectly, and we completed both upper and lower restorations in just two hours,” he explains. “The patient was overwhelmed by the results, and said that we had surpassed the expectations set during the test drive.”

The patient was not only delighted with the outcome, she received many compliments. So natural-looking was her final result that the patient’s family noticed her transformation but couldn't identify the changes as being related to her teeth
