Viva Smile before DSD
“It's like going from black and white to color TV,” Karen explains about the impact that implementing DSD has had on his clinic, an established restorative and cosmetic practice in California, USA. With DSD’s pragmatic systems for exceptional smile transformation he says, “We were able to fully utilize the technology and AI and integrate it with every workflow we have in the clinic for every patient, changing the patient experience for the better."
Prior to DSD, Karen's clinic faced several hurdles:
Technology Utilization: Despite having advanced dental technologies, their potential was underutilized affecting clinic efficiency
Patient Experience: The clinic wanted to differentiate the patient experience meaningfully, as it is challenging to stand out in a competitive market
Team Engagement: The staff's involvement and excitement about their work was not as high as it could have been
Karen heard about DSD for the first time when he watched Christian Coachman present a lecture at an event for the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Encouraged by a fellow dentist who was also exploring digital smile design, he signed up to his first DSD Course.
A key moment in the course for him was when he realized DSD could solve key challenges for his clinic: “I realized the potential impact of DSD on my business and the quality of care I could provide. The dental industry is very competitive and patients are seeking for more personalized and high quality treatment, and I needed a solution that would not only differentiate my clinic, but also streamline the process to improve the outcome and make sure that it is consistently ideal or close to ideal. That consistency was my goal. “
Once he began the implementation journey in his clinic with his team, there was no turning back. He started to notice the benefits from the outset. As an accomplished clinician, he particularly enjoyed the collaboration in treatment planning with DSD’s experts which he describes as: “There is a collaboration of exceptional professionals. You have at your disposal DSD’s knowledge; people who have done so many of the cases and they are experts. You can ask your question and get a detailed explanation and you can go over the cases having all the digital materials available.”
In the process it became clear to him that digital dentistry at its heart, is about communication. “After becoming a certified DSD clinic my communication with my lab, my colleagues, with everybody, has increased drastically. By doing DSD you automatically become a better communicator,” he elaborates.

Integration of technology to enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes
Karen is an experienced implant dentist and was impressed by DSD’s guided surgery offering, DSD Clic Guide, when he tried it. “With DSD, planning the surgery with Clic Guides, immediate provisionalization... it's a tremendous service,” he says, explaining that it enables him to help patients go home post placement with a beautiful smile already.
Being no stranger to delivering comprehensive treatment, another massive advantage Karen began to experience since working with DSD was the ability to sleep the night before a big case. "With DSD, you don't need to worry the night before how your delivery is going to go, whether the patient will like it, or whether you will have to go back and forth with the lab and having to modify things," he adds. The difference in stress levels was notable.
“What DSD did is streamline our cosmetic cases and brought consistency to the game. But the biggest difference was in full mouth implant cases. Full mouth implant cases are a completely different ball game. The changes they can bring to it, I cannot describe it,” he explains.
To summarize, the main impact of DSD implementation on Karen’s clinic has been:
Patient Satisfaction: Marked improvement in patient feedback, attributing to the refined and engaging treatment experience.
Staff Retention and Satisfaction: Increased enthusiasm and professional growth among the staff, leading to higher retention rates.
Business Growth: Enhanced reputation and competitive edge in the market, leading to increased
"The most important part is the staff involvement. DSD made them so much more excited and so much more involved."new patient inquiries and retention,” Karen explains that DSD has given his team a lot of enthusiasm and pride in their own career paths.
Finally, as a dental professional who regularly attends key dental congresses, he adds that having DSD experience has given him new insight and a network of colleagues worldwide who are wired like him. "I am in a huge crowd of like-minded individuals, with whom many of them are my friends already... we share with the experiences, even personal things."
“DSD is the center stage for all the innovative dentistry going on. You’d better be on that stage if you want to succeed,” he concludes.
