If you felt overwhelmed by the wave of updates coming out of this year's IDS in Cologne - or feel like you can't keep up with the advances happening in digital dentistry - you’re not alone.
One of the DSD team's goals at IDS 2025 was to become your ‘eyes and ears’: sort through the noise, spot what really matters and report back to you on the digital dental technology innovations that can make a real difference in your clinic.
In this article we’ll summarize some of the standout innovations, organized by brand, that we think are worth keeping an eye on in the coming months.

Digital dental technology innovations to watch in the coming months
SprintRay: Chairside 3D printing gets a boost
SprintRay turned heads with their new MIDAS 3D printer, which introduces a new way for dental clinics to handle chairside restorations. We’re already testing it at DSD Lab to see how it can support clinics worldwide.
Other cool innovations from SprintRay included:
AI Retainer Design: Generate ready-to-print clear retainers from scan data in minutes - free with SprintRay’s system.
APEX Denture System: Deliver 3D-printed dentures in as few as two appointments.
Pro 2 Duo Kit: A dual-tank setup that lets you print with two resins, switching materials to keep things moving.
SprintRay's partnerships with big names like Straumann, Solventum and Ivoclar are another strong sign that efficient chairside workflows are becoming a new normal.
Straumann and SprintRay partnership
SprintRay and Straumann announced their strategic partnership which brings with it the co-branded Straumann Signature Midas 3D printer, developed in partnership with SprintRay. It’s built to work seamlessly with their AXS platform and SIRIOS intraoral scanner, creating an end-to-end, chairside digital workflow that’s ideal for same-day treatments.
With the full EMEA launch of AXS, Straumann’s aiming to make digital dental technology innovations a lot easier to integrate into everyday practice.
Formlabs Dental: Faster, smarter and more open
Formlabs announced their new Form Cure 2nd Gen - a curing box that can post-cure models in just 60 seconds and biocompatible resins in under 10 minutes.
They’ve also introduced Low Force Display (LFD) printing - a no-laser system that improves accuracy and print speed. Plus, they’ve opened up their printers to work with third-party resins through Open Material Mode, offering even more flexibility for busy practices.
3Shape: Diagnosis gets a digital boost
3Shape launched their wireless TRIOS 6 intraoral scanner, which is equipped with Dx Plus - a smart AI system that helps detect caries, tooth wear, recession, and plaque. It also comes with a patient app designed to improve patient communication and boost case acceptance.
PIC Dental: Photogrammetry on your smartphone
PIC Dental introduced a mobile-based photogrammetry solution that lets you capture implant positions using your smartphone and some tech. With a starter kit and low monthly fee, it's an exciting new way to lower the cost barrier for full-arch workflows.

vhf: Milling Made Smoother
vhf showcased some smart upgrades, including:
dentalcam 9: New CAM software that cuts processing time by up to 20%.
myvhf: A cloud-based platform that keeps you updated on job status, maintenance and more.
Biotech Dental: AI that saves time
Biotech Dental unveiled several tools designed to make clinical workflows smoother:
IRIS by Starck: A lightweight IOS scanner, designed by Philippe Starck, with features such as AI-guided scanning.
PrediSmile: An AI tool that predicts case complexity and aligner outcomes.
OLI AI Chatbot: An always-on digital assistant for product and treatment questions.
Circle: A comprehensive solution for creating and managing prosthetics.
ModJaw: Bringing 4D dentistry to life
ModJaw launched Sphere, a cloud-based platform that makes it easier than ever for clinicians and labs to collaborate using real jaw motion data. With real-time editing and smart tools like ‘Crop Motion’ and ‘Mock-up Virtual Testing’, Sphere is taking functional smile design to the next level.
Shining 3D Dental: One Scanner, Two Huge Functions
The Aoralscan Elite by Shining 3D Dental combines traditional intraoral scanning with photogrammetry. This means that with one device, you can now scan teeth and oral structures and also capture the position of implants in edentulous cases.
Dentognostics: Prevention at the Chairside
Dentognostics’ ORALyzer EXPERT is a rapid saliva testing device that measures biomarkers like aMMP-8 and vitamin D in just five minutes. This means clinicians can catch tissue degradation long before it becomes serious - a big win for preventive care.
vVARDIS: A new era of biomimetic dentistry?
vVARDIS showcased Curodont Repair, a system that uses Guided Enamel Regeneration to stop and reverse early caries with a 90% success rate. Their new Curodont Protect gel also offers a fantastic preventive option for high-risk patients and those in orthodontic treatment.
