My name is Dr Carmen Caballero and I’m a dentist and the DSD Master Clinical Director here at Digital Smile Design in Madrid, Spain. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is reviewing cases from dentists from around the world in their DSD implementation journey to become a DSD Master. There are many dentists with experience in digital dentistry who want to take their case planning and execution to the next level.
Under the supervision of our DSD Master team, this is exactly what they can achieve. One of our recent DSD Masters, Dr Simon Weingut, told me about how he found the certification and how it has impacted his practice.
Dr Carmen Caballero: What were your reasons for starting the DSD Master certification?
Dr Simon Weingut: After attending the DSD Residency 1 in Madrid in 2017 I started working with the DSD workflow but never managed to follow it all the way through in my cases. The DSD Master certification gave me the opportunity to finally implement the workflow 100%. This was the part I was missing and it made my clinical workflow so much easier.
Dr Caballero: How would you describe the process of doing the DSD Master certification?
Dr Weingut: I really enjoyed the DSD Master certification process. The communication with the DSD team and the clinical support made me more confident in treating my patients and trusting in the DSD workflow. One extra benefit was the personal contact with the DSD team and all the friends I have made through the DSD Master certification.
Because of the guidance of the DSD team, I was able to perform more expansive interdisciplinary treatments than I have ever done before. I needed to step out of my comfort zone, which in the end made me a better and more experienced dentist.

Dr Caballero: What was your biggest takeaway?
Dr Weingut: The biggest takeaway for me was how to communicate treatment plans with patients. The DSD emotional presentation and motivational mockup are amazing tools for communicating different treatment options with the patient, allowing for easier decision-making.
Dr Caballero: What next goal are you working towards?
Dr Weingut: I have just started at a new clinic and I’m really looking forward to implementing the DSD workflows there. The biggest challenge is to educate the team. The next goal is to get my assistant to attend the next DSD Coordinators Course.
Dr Caballero: Would you recommend the DSD Master certification to other dentists?
Dr Weingut: If you are interested in fully understanding the DSD workflow and implementing it in your clinical workflow, I highly recommend the DSD Master certification. I really enjoyed learning from the clinical expertise in the DSD team, from their immense knowledge regarding Invisalign treatments all the way to interdisciplinary treatment planning.
Become a certified DSD Master
Are you a dentist with experience in digital dentistry but want to take your case planning and execution to the next level of excellence?
To certify as a DSD Master, participants must submit case presentations based on a range of criteria. The main aspects that the DSD Master certification team takes into consideration include the quality of the documentation from beginning to end, the quality of the interdisciplinary treatment planning, and the use of all the DSD services available.
It's important to note that attending DSD Provider course is a prerequisite to qualifying for the DSD Master certification. This is for you to first gain a sufficient understanding of DSD concepts and workflows to get the most out of what the DSD Master certification has to offer.
