I’ve worked with many dentists who want to offer clear aligners but find the planning process time-consuming, disjointed, or lacking esthetic control. That’s why I’m excited to share that Digital Smile Design (DSD) has partnered with ClearCorrect by Straumann to create a streamlined, predictable and supportive workflow for your aligner cases.
This collaboration isn’t just about connecting two systems, it’s about improving the everyday reality for clinicians by combining our planning expertise at DSD with ClearCorrect’s advanced aligner technology and commitment to service.
This new service is currently in a pilot phase and available exclusively to UK dentists. In this article, I’ll walk you through how it works, what advantages it brings and what you can expect when you begin using it.
What does this partnership mean for you as an aligners provider?
This new workflow is designed to simplify and improve your experience at every stage of aligner treatment. Here are just some of the advantages you can expect:
✅ Optional full case control by DSD
Once your patient approves the design, you can authorize us to take care of the case: file submission, modification review and technician communication.
✅ Guided by DSD Design
The ClearCorrect planning team will use the final tooth position from your approved DSD project as the starting point. This keeps your treatment plan true to your diagnostic and esthetic goals.
✅ Dedicated ClearCorrect technicians
Straumann has assigned a small, highly skilled team to handle DSD cases during this beta period. This means fast communication, high accuracy and a ‘white glove’ level of support during each step.
✅ Faster turnaround (5–7 days)
With ClearCorrect dedicating a technician team to handle DSD cases, we can now complete planning in as little as 5–7 business days – significantly faster than many other systems.
✅ Same DSD planning cost
There’s no change in your cost when using this workflow; it’s the same investment as your usual DSD Ortho Planning product. This means no surprises and no extra fees for switching over.
✅ Advanced aligner technology
ClearCorrect aligners are designed for precision, comfort and esthetics: the result of decades of research and innovation. This collaboration allows you to take full advantage of this in your patient aligner cases.
The DSD–ClearCorrect workflow
We’ve designed a clear and simple workflow to make the process as easy as possible for clinicians. Our goal is to reduce the workload on your side while maintaining precision and control throughout the case. Let’s take a look at how it works:
1. You add DSD as a collaborator
In the ClearCorrect platform, you can grant DSD collaborator access so we can manage case files and submit directly.
2. You order Ortho Planning + TPS
When placing the order through DSD, you indicate that ClearCorrect will be the aligner system.
3. DSD develops the plan
We will create the ortho plan and share the full design presentation with you.
4. Plan approval
Once the plan is approved by both you and your patient, we will submit all necessary files to ClearCorrect, including the final DSD-designed tooth position. This will become the foundation of the ClearCorrect plan.
5. DSD reviews the first plan
We receive the initial proposal back from ClearCorrect, review the alignment and strategy and submit any required modifications to ensure the case remains aligned with the DSD-approved goals.
6. Final review and sign-off
After all changes are implemented, we will perform one final revision and notify you that the case is ready for final approval and aligner production.
This service includes a full report outlining the planning strategy, optional meetings with a DSD specialist to discuss complex cases, and the same quality control procedures applied to all DSD TPS cases.
