Kois and Coachman: Optimizing Clinical Outcomes is a brand new course from DSD which sees Dr John Kois and Christian Coachman join forces for an event of this kind for the very first time.
In this article we will answer the questions you've been asking about this course and how it could benefit you.
What is this course actually about?
The sheer number of dental technology options available nowadays can be overwhelming and we know it can be confusing to work out which ones are actually effective – and therefore worth investing your time and money in.
This course is designed to help you with exactly this. Dr John Kois and Christian Coachman will offer a methodical review of available dental technologies according to evidence-based clinical and technical criteria – not only from both a clinician and technician’s perspective, but from their unique viewpoints of spending years testing, analyzing and reviewing available solutions.
It will help you to understand where to invest your time and money in technologies to improve your return on investment, treatment planning and clinical execution.
This will include:
Which technologies are mature, effective and ready to be adopted
Which technologies are not yet mature and ready to be adopted
Where digital does and doesn’t make sense
How technologies can optimize treatment planning decisions
How technologies can impact clinical execution
What type of technology will be reviewed?
The treatment timeline will be split into two moments to analyze the technologies available at each one.
1. Pre-case acceptance
Patient data acquisition
Diagnostic design
Diagnosis and treatment planning
Patient presentation
2. Post-case acceptance
Foundation (emergencies, chronic issues and function)
Preparatory treatments (ortho, perio, implants and orthognathic)
Restorative treatment
Maintenance and prevention
The price of the course seems high - what will I gain if I choose to attend?
Optimizing Clinical Outcomes with Kois and Coachman brings together two of dentistry’s biggest names to offer the unique perspectives of both Dr John Kois and Christian Coachman ‘all in one’. In terms of not only ticket price, but travel and other expenses, it would cost more to attend two separate events (one Kois and one DSD).
You will benefit from:
The rare opportunity to see Dr Kois in action outside the Kois Center.
Attending the first ever (and perhaps the only) course with Dr John Kois and Christian Coachman at the helm, which brings together the best parts of multiple courses given by both speakers.
A shortcut to what really matters when it comes to technology in dentistry – Dr John Kois and Christian will share everything they know and have learned, and offer their conclusions after so many years of testing, comparing and analyzing different solutions. It would take a lot of time and effort to acquire this type of content by attending multiple other courses and congresses.
Christian’s in-depth knowledge of Kois content. He will extract the best from it to offer a live debate on the most important topics.
In general, there are many factors that go into deciding the cost of DSD courses. As an in-person course, the cost reflects the fact that Optimizing Clinical Outcomes with Kois and Coachman will provide participants with an unparalleled experience in a fantastic location.

I have done a Kois course and a DSD course - what value does Optimizing Clinical Outcomes add?
Kois courses are mainly about treatment planning and clinical execution; DSD courses are about the DSD philosophy. This course is not about either of these topics.
Optimizing Clinical Outcomes with Kois and Coachman is focused on what technologies are out there: which ones make sense, which ones are relevant and which are still not that relevant. This is not discussed in a summarized and practical way at Kois or DSD individual courses and neither Kois nor DSD courses are in the debate format that this course will take.
As a participant in this course, you will have John Kois and Christian speaking for the first time together, about a specific subject that they never talk exclusively about, and debating live on each topic.
What is the format of the course?
The course will be two days long and take place in Miami.
There will lectures as well as discussions and debates between John Kois and Christian Coachman.
Will this course be a debate?
Yes - the course will include lively and spontaneous debate and discussions on key topics between Dr John Kois and Christian Coachman, and the rest of the presenters.
Will there be any live demonstrations/ live patients/ hands-on components?
The course format is focused on lectures, discussions and live debates between the speakers and there will not be any live demonstrations or hands-on sessions.
I’m an orthodontist - how can the Optimizing Clinical Outcomes course benefit me?
The course is ideal for any specialist as technology is for everyone: improving interdisciplinary diagnosis, planning and execution through technology is for everyone and improving collaboration, communication and decision making through technology is for everyone.
We believe that every specialist will benefit from the experience of John Kois and Christian Coachman in what works and what doesn't when it comes to technology.
